It's Been too Long

its been too long

since my words have spewed forth

from a place deep and buried

so far beneath the surface

that its light is rarely seen

its tentative glow remains hidden

by the myriad pieces of life

pieces of responsibility, obligation and duty

every once in a while

i abandon those pesky pieces

ride down the elevator

into that deep dark cellar

hang out for a time

and attempt to free

some of those words from their chains

carry them out

and let them breathe

in the light of day
