Experimental Art

my experimental art class is about trying lots of new things, many of which would never have occurred to me on my own.  like blowing food coloring around with a straw….

and adding spices (nutmeg and turmeric in this case) to an art piece to give it texture....

or retrieving pieces of stained paper towels (from when i accidentally spilled the food coloring – talk about a bloody mess!!) from the trash and using bits of them as an accent….

or trying to overcome my drawing intimidation by smudging what i’ve drawn with charcoal and adding colored pencil, then cutting up the pieces and adding them to a tea-stained page and embellishing with yarn…

i have to say, it is so much fun!!  and a wealth of ideas that will keep me busy for, oh,  the next several years or so….  the beauty of it is in COMBINING ideas with each other and with techniques that i already know.  the possibilities are – quite literally – endless!!!
