Animal Fix

as some of you know, we are “between dogs” right now....  when you are used to having that creature presence around you on a daily basis, there is definitely a noticeable void when it is no longer there.
we are so lucky, here in san diego county, to live near one of the most fabulous zoos in the world.  wouldn’t you think we would go there all the time?

well, as i’m sure i’ve mentioned, we tend to mostly take dog-friendly vacations, and that includes short excursions.  so unless someone is visiting from out of town... we rarely visit our wonderful zoo.  given all of that, the time seemed right for a zoo-visit this past week and we were not disappointed.

i think as i get older i am becoming much more appreciative of just being in the presence of these amazing creatures.  it’s definitely a powerful (spiritual even) experience to stand so close and know that on a very deep level.... we are all connected.  loved it!

  1. In this northern region there are no zoos, I have never been to a zoo and have always felt a little twinge of sadness for caged animals but these fellows look quite happy, kind of like they have no worries.Maybe they realize they are free from predators.
I hope you find a canine family member soon to fill that space. If not you have these great looking guys who I'm sure have come to like an audience. They seem so happy. The polar bear with the carrot sticking out of his mouth is amazing.

  2. Laurie, I hate cages too! They really make an effort here to keep the animals in a natural-like habitat. Safari Park, an extension of the zoo, is even better, with huge spaces for them to roam. Most of these looked pretty happy except some of the big cats seemed to be "pacing", which I think is a sign of boredom. That made us uncomfortable.

  5. Patty, these pictures are awesome!!! I like the San Diego Zoo, I think it one of the best in the world. As I understand they have a huge percentage of rescue animals there who otherwise would have been killed. I also liked the Safari park. Our family favorite though was Funani, the hippo - quite a character.

  7. The shots are amazing, Patty. I do think we need an 'animal fix' -- I would be lost without Habibi. Love the gorilla hand -- incredibly beautiful. xoDonna
